Default Missy Higgins, William Shatner Back Sierra Club's 2% Initiative

Heh...check this out...

Missy Higgins, William Shatner Back Sierra Club’s 2% Initiative // Archives // ecorazzi.com :: the latest in green gossip

Quote:
In the piece, Missy points out that “scientists say we need to make a big change in the amount of carbon that comes from our cars, our homes and our businesses.” Missy reminds us that being a part of the solution to global warming is everyone’s responsibility - governments, families, businesses - and that we need to cut our carbon emissions 80% by 2050. But she also says that we don’t need to do this all at once and that every little bit helps. If we can cut our carbon emissions by an average of 2% per year, we can stop some of the most damaging effects of global warming.
Look, Missy ain't got a clue. She's reading cue-cards, for crying out loud.

The last people the Eco Geeks need to have endorsing this stuff are a bunch of hypocritical, filthy rich, arrogant, social elitists in Hollywood. So it's fine by me if they continue to pursue this course, because it will be grossly ineffective in the long run.

A far more effective marketing plan would attempt to appeal to average people who can neither afford to cut back on daily necessities nor invest in more expensive technology. Show them how to cut back 2% per year without having to move into a trailer and eating tofu sandwiches for the rest of their lives.

There's a reason the Sierra Club doesn't employ such a plan: they can't. Going green either means a thinner wallet, a lower standard of living, or both.

How many times have we illustrated it here? There is no cost advantage to these green technologies, even with government subsidies. You take that out of the equation a 2nd-grader could figure it out.

All of this "green" nonsense will ultimately fail because it doesn't appeal to people's optimism. It's all about low expectations. What an inspiring message.

"Going green either means a thinner wallet, a lower standard of living, or both. "

So true ! We've pointed out that fact many times on this forum.

"All of this "green" nonsense will ultimately fail because it doesn't appeal to people's optimism. "

This point however, I'd like to add that I believe this green nonsense will succeed, as most people (not you, myself, or anyone else on this forum) will not question or challenge any green ideas. We've noted that many times, just as long as you slap "green" or "eco friendly" people will be suckered into that without questioning it or asking for proof or consequences of taking such action. They will blindly follow any claims with the green label on it (ie. look at how many people bought the prius, all because toyota smartly markets it as green).

No one has done the math on buying a prius vs. a non hybrid 4 cyl car and the pay off period. If they bothered to sit down for 5 min. they'll realize that financially owning the prius makes no financial sense.

And we've demonstrated on here many times, environmentalists make tonnes of bogus claims without any proof or facts to back it up, knowing full well that people will fall for it head over heels.
