Well, here's part of what kids are being taught. But it's by their own parents.

By 10:20 one recent day, they were constructing a matrix analysis of things they had tried - and logged on tracking sheets - over the last six months, comparing difficulty to impact.


Using less detergent and canceling the double rinse on the washer were easy and made a difference. Likewise, getting their children to wear their jeans twice.

There's a difference between using less detergent and not enough detergent.

What's the point of washing your clothes if they aren't getting clean, Mrs Oblivious?

Hanging wash on a line made a difference but was inconvenient. "I had six loads yesterday," said Beth Resweber, who has four children. "I doubled my laundry time."

Seriously....did it take the actual performance to figure this out? You couldn't have foreseen this?

Installing new insulation was expensive but had a high impact in energy savings.

What does this have to do with "going green?" You act like insulation was invented 3 years ago.

Not flushing the toilet every time might have an impact, but no one was willing.

Well color me shocked.

As for the showers, timed with borrowed swim-team stopwatches, the women themselves turned out to be the water hogs.


"Our husbands and kids are taking two- to three-minute showers," Murray said. "We're taking 11- to 12-minute showers."


One of Stacy Clements' sons clocked in at 58 seconds. "And I was like, OK, was any soap involved?"

I take 20 minute showers. Minimum. And I pay for the water I use.

No one in the 3rd world is starving because I take 20 minute showers. This is just utter lunacy.

Their husbands have watched with interest, perhaps even awe. "We've had a lot of changes in the house - positive," J.W. Clements said.

J.W., I hate to be the one to tell you, but you're whipped. I wouldn't put up with this nonsense for five minutes.

There is a clear difference between cutting back on waste & lowering your standard of living. J.W., your standard of living has been cut back, and the sad part is, it doesn't have to be.

Why do these people punish themselves so? They could be enjoying life.

The children became the reality check for how low the thermostats could go in winter - 65.


At Murray's house, "the rule was you could tell me you were cold only if you had on socks and a sweatshirt."

No one could possibly be cold. Global warming? Remember?

"They get it, why I'm doing it," she said, but added, "They also think I go overboard."

Now where the hell would they get a silly idea like that?

As their kids begin to understand why their mother isn't, say, buying plastic bags for their sandwiches anymore, "it is bringing an awareness to the new generation," Volz said.

"I think they'll then really lead the way."

Sad, sad, sad. A family of followers greenwashing their kids to be....followers.

These people don't possess an ounce of independent thought. They aren't leaders, they're lemmings.

I agree, this is just sheer lunacy and it is sad that parents are teaching their kids lies the environmentalists have brought forth.

On the other hand, despite my strong beliefs against global climate change, I still do some recycling and other 'green' activities. why ? because the mrs. does it and to keep peace in the household, I gotta do them. However, it doesn't mean I have to like it, I just do it so it prevents me from sleeping on the couch every night.

I agree with the statements you guys have made, it is too far. And on what you said mcclane, I believe there is nothing wrong with recyclying (my family does) and being humanitarian (in the TRADITIONAL sense) but by the same token I do not persecute those who do not recycle etc. I can see the benefits of making paper out of recycled paper poducts and not overcrowding the dumps - it is just simple thrift. The problem is the extremism that being green has become today. In fact God gave us this earth and we re to rule over and care for it, BUT there IS such a thing as too far.

I gues an indicator of wht is OK, is what we used to do BEFORE the Global Warming Extremist Religion went worldwide.

Just my 10c on the matter.

I guess the thing that kinda bug me about recycling is it makes me look like i'm giving into these environmentalists. You make some good points, in recycling will help in reduce the amount going into the dumps.

On the other hand, when I see environmentalists saying obese people contribute to global warming and becoming a vegetarian will help reduce global warming, that is too far. Some people may have a medical condition and cannot help being obese and when it comes to food, environmentalists are shaming people who want to eat something different other than rabbit food.
