This subject just never dies. And it keeps getting more & more absurd.

Quote:
Wear an old wedding gown to the rehearsal dinner, instead of buying a brand new dress
Yeah, you try to convince any woman to do this and see how it goes over.

Quote:
Use parts of the old dress to create a brand new look with a hybrid gown to wear on your wedding day
A hybrid gown?

Quote:
Ask your guests to use natural fabrics for wrapping presents.
Look, bud....you send me an invitation with that stipulation and I'm not getting you a damn present.

It's like the whole "green Christmas" idea of wrapping presents in old wallpaper or newspaper. You put that in a pile during a game of "Dirty Santa" and everyone will think the same thing: whatever's under that wrapping isn't worth choosing.

the mrs. watches "rich bride, poor bride" on Slice every so often, and on one episode this bride wanted her wedding to be 100% eco friendly.

Usually I don't mind the show but that episode it was very hard to stomach, she was sooooo preachy and wanted everything to be green. She even rented a stinkin' prius as her limo, and she kept calling it a limo. Give me a break, that isn't a limo it is a tin can on wheels.

Anyways, I've read in the newspaper about how a couple can make their wedding green. Other points include trying to keep your reception/ceremony close, so people won't have to travel far. Try to use electronic invites so you don't have to waste paper mailing invites to people.

They also suggest using local florists that grow flowers locally, and to find places that use food locally too (to reduce shipping/transportation emissions).

What a load of crock. I figure, a wedding is one day of our life that you want to make special I can understand if both husband and wife agree to it (IMO I think a green wedding is stupid but hey, if both parties agree to it then all the power to them as it is their special day), but no environmentalist should push their green ideas on others. If a couple wants to mail out paper invites, they should do so. If flowers are cheaper than locally grown ones, then they should be able to use whatever their budget allows, not because it is green friendly.

BTW, about the christmas thing, we sometimes recycle, in other words regift.

Was it a label-maker?

I've done it. In fact, I've still got a golf glove & club cover (or whatever, I don't play) still in my closet that I won at a seminar I attended. That's got somebody's name on it.

compared to some gifts we've received, a label maker would have been a god send !!

the mrs. received an adidas perfume pack from her sister one christmas. I told her to just regift it, but she felt guilty giving that gift to anyone else so she kept it, unused to this day.
