Default *rant* Stupid environmentalists !!

Grrrrr !!!!!!!!!!

the mrs. and myself like to take one big vacation each year, however we recently bought another vehicle so it kinda puts a crimp in our budget for a big trip. However, she expressed interest in flying to chicago for a week in the fall.

When we checked out the price for tixs in march, it was around $700 per person, not bad. However, since high fuel prices hit the airline has imposed a $95 fuel surcharge (we have found they are charging $95 fuel surcharge for most destinations in the US), so now the price is over $800/person. ouch !

And thanks to the obstructionist to progress interest group (you know how they are), and their views on blocking oil from being drilled and pumped out of the ground, this trip for us may not occur due to the high air fare.

My experience has been the ticket prices usually drop around 1-2 months out from when you want them.

But $800? Wow. Last time I flew from Memphis to San Diego, it wasn't even half that much. That was in 2004, I think. Is the trip from where you live to Chicago that far? Or are international flights always higher? Never flown out of the country myself.....although you'd think I'd need a passport for California. Place is strangely different from the rest of the country.

i'm located north of montana. what i don't get is, boston is even further out but that is only around $600/person.

No, I don't think international flights are more expensive, I think it all depends if the destination is a popular one or not, the less popular the more expensive it is.

we may head to california, disneyland (yay !!) for our fall vacation. Plane tickets is around $550/person to LAX, and $560 to john wayne airport (that is closer to anaheim than lax is).

the mrs. would love to go to chicago, but at $800/person plane tickets, that is too rich for our blood.

The wife & I went to Disney World in Florida for our honeymoon a few years ago. We had a blast.

Last time I went to a football game out in California, we actually stayed right down the street from Disney Land. Never went in the parks, though. There was a middle area of restaurants that had an ESPN Zone, so we were content to throw down a few beers & watch sports for a few hours. First time I'd ever been to a restaurant with a $10 hourly minimum. Guess they couldn't afford to have people sitting around drinking beer & watching TV all day.

that was actually our very first trip, a caribbean cruise followed by 8 days in orlando. Went to disneyworld and universal studios, it was great ! no lineup or nothing.

hey AE, do you remember what hotel you stayed at ? We found that the hotels in anaheim are quite cheap, compared to some of the hotels in chicago.
